A Message from the Chairman

After such a traumatic end to the 22/23 season where we'd been led to believe that our 1st team had escaped relegation, only then to be thrown under the bus in a league reshuffle. I'm pleased to report that not only the 1st team but the whole of the senior section has had quite an extraordinary year. There have been lots of highs (and a few lows). But overall I believe we have had a really successful 23/24 season.

After a last minute issue before the season where our coach was unable to continue due to work reasons, we were fortunate that Robbo and Ed stepped up and filled the role, continuing and then expanding their training sessions preparing the squads for their respective leagues.
Robbo was already coaching the ladies and the U15's and had now made a bit of time for the senior men dragging Ed along for the ride. The season has proved to be a huge success with the 1st team sitting pretty at the top of Yorkshire 3 with a record of played 22, won 20, drawn 1, lost 1 (to their closest rivals in the league). We secured top spot with a rather tense encounter in the final game of the season away to Thirsk and what a party ensued afterwards.
On behalf of the players and committee I would like to thank Robbo and Ed for all their hard work at getting the team ready and coaching them through the season. Thanks also to Trev for helping with preseason.

The ladies have had a fabulous season picking up where they left off at the end of last season with ever increasing numbers. The players improved and gained invaluable experience and by the end of the season they came an impressive 2nd in their league with a record of 12 games, 10 wins and 2 loses. What a great season for the ever present captain Natalie to finally hang up her boots after 30 years of playing. A great ambassador to the team and the club and we wish her well in her retirement (bar the odd game I'm sure).
The 2nd team has also had a great season in the TVL also coming 2nd in their league, with 17 games, 12 wins,1 draw and 4 loses. When the numbers were available the team was able to put in some great performances with a mix of youth and a lot of experience.
The juniors have also had some great results this last season and as we all know there is no substitute for playing to improve and bring along players.

Off the pitch the club is in a healthy position. The work, time and effort put in by committee and non-committee members alike has helped to keep all aspects of the club going forward. Special mention to Craig and Tim organising the bar (our main source of revenue) without their kind donation of their time we would not be financially viable. To Vicki for running the place as well as ever and Jonny and Pete for keeping the grounds and club in order.
There are a number of roles carried out by committee and non-committee and we can never have too many hands involved so any help will always be gratefully received.
I'd like to thank all our sponsors for last season, your contributions are what keep the club running (I'm sure Tim will be pestering you again soon)
On a low note we lost some influential members from recent and yesteryear this last year.
Bob Baker, committee member, former Director and player as well as Jeppo, John Liley and more recently Decker. All losses to ourselves and the rugby community as a whole.

I'd like to remind everyone that the AGM will be held at the club tonight (Wednesday 15th). All members are welcome to come and participate.

Finally I'd like to thank all our supporters who have stuck by us. After the tragedy of last season we hope that you have been entertained this year and we look forward to seeing you all down the club next season.

Best wishes and enjoy the summer

Simon
