A Comfortable Win

Northallerton completed their league season with a comfortable 20-0 home win against a young and inexperienced Baildon team.
North again rested a couple of players but also gave a run out to some players returning from injury and hoping to get into the Twickenham squad in two weeks time.
The first half was a timid and quiet affair with neither side putting together many periods of domination. North probably slightly edged proceedings and managed to take the lead via a long range penalty from Iain MacLeod after twenty minutes. Ten minutes before half time the game sprang into life when Tom Cornforth was fortunate not to get yellow carded for a shoulder charge tackle attempt. From the ensuing melee it was James Duggleby who deservedly ended up in the sin bin for ten minutes leaving North down to 14 men. North defended well and managed to withstand Baildon's attempt to take advantage of the extra man to half time.
Ten minutes into the second half Norths jinking scrum half Patrick Hebblethwaite added to impressive haul of tries for the season, with another zig zagging run to the line for a try converted by MacLeod. With Norths confidence now growing and Baildon suffering more injuries than available replacements, North started to dominate proceedings. Tom Rennison, playing only his second game of the season, scored his first ever try thanks to some good work again from Hebblethwaite and MacLeod, who combined well in midfield before releasing Rennison out wide to score a unconverted try. Ten minutes from time North scored the try of the game again from Rennison. The try was started by a long, floating miss pass from Jp Coyne which EVENTUALLY found Joe Terry, who cut inside and skipped past two tacklers before throwing a reverse pass inside which was collected by Rennison who had a three on one advantage outside but went for glory and just scrambled over for the try. Five minutes from time Terry was substituted as he had the sheer cheek and audacity to tackle one of the poor, young Baildon lads - and coach Alec Porter nearly had a heart attack! As did Debs Morgan, who said she didn't have enough tape and glue to fix Joe Terry if he hurt himself again.
Next week Northallerton travel to Whitby in the semi final of the Yorkshire Silver Trophy kick off at 3pm.
Then on Sunday 3rd of May is the landmark occasion of Northallerton's first ever trip to Twickenham for the final of the National Vase. There are still match tickets and coach places available for anymore wishing to join the 200+ already going!
