ANOTHER DEFEAT FROM THE JAWS OF VICTORY

Northallerton are still looking for their first win of the season after falling to a close 31-36 defeat at home to Goole.
North started the game well and scored within the first three minutes when Sam Taylor used his pace out wide to beat three defenders and score a try converted by Jed Bainbridge.
Goole however came back with a unconverted try when missed tackles out wide allowed them to score far too easily in the corner.
Five minutes later North regained the lead when from a line out, they started a 10 metre rolling maul before frail looking Simon Manthorpe touched down for his first ever try for the club, although most people think Ben Barnard scored! Bainbridge again with the conversion for a 14-5 score.
Goole again came back at North with two quick tries in the space of five minutes to take a three point lead. Just before half time Bainbridge scored a long range penalty from an acute angle to send the teams in level at the break 17-17.
Northallerton started the second half on the front foot and scored the try of the game with Taylor adding his second try. Captain Jonny Franks produced a moment of magic in midfield, suddenly changing the direction of play with a sublime reverse pass to 'ickle Baz Rolfe, who then sent out a long pass to Taylor to score out wide. Bainbridge missed the conversion but five minutes later atoned for the miss with another penalty to give North a 25-17 lead.
As in recent weeks North failed build on their success and let slip a winning position. Northallerton produced too many mistakes and allowed Goole too much possession giving them three more easy tries. North could only respond with two more penalties from Bainbridge.
In the dying seconds, trailing by five points North were awarded a penalty and the chance to launch one final attack for the needed try. However, a comment to the referee from a Northallerton player - no names, but son of Tank - ended up with the penalty being reversed and thus ending any chance of a comeback.
Northallerton must now work hard at training during the week and learn how to close out a game when in a winning position.
AND ONE FINAL THOUGHT - NORTH HAVE NOT WON A GAME SINCE DICKO HAS BOUGHT/WAS GIVEN HIS WHITE BOOTS!!!!!!
Next week Northallerton firsts travel to Baildon with a 3pm kick off.
