From what I've been told

This week saw Northallerton host Weatherby in a rematch of last years Yorkshire Silver Trophy final. With Northallerton still searching for for their first win of the season and Weatherby making a blistering start to life in Yorkshire 3 a tough match was expected. North were still depleted by injuries, work commitments and unavailability but still fielded an experienced side. The dry warm conditions suited Weatherby more than North and they were making inroads when they got the ball out wide, this was particularly evident due to poor kick chasing and Weatherby scored on the counter attack more than once. North's pack, led by club Stalwart Paul Dixon once again dominated the battle up front with Joe Oselton impressing on his debut for the club. This domination led to Phil Swall going down the blind side and touching down in the corner. The game swung back and forth with neither side taking control.
Both teams traded blows and Patrick Hebbletwaite scored with a trademark sniping run from the base of the scrum to further his advantage over Jonny Franks in the race to be top try scorer this season. Jacob Sankey staked his own claim to be a contender with is 2nd try in as many games after more powerful work from the North pack. With the game out of reach the forwards again proved they are tireless workhorses with another rolling maul driving their Weatherby counterparts back again, this time for John Logan to touch down. This gave North a try scoring bonus point and the forwards can take this as a reward for a hard days graft at the coal face! Xander Metcalf hit the post with his conversion attempt but can be pleased to have kicked 3 out of 4 of his conversion attempts to make the final score a disappointing 36-26 loss.
Northallertons 2nd XV travelled to Hartlepool to fulfil their first fixture of the season. Sadly with the squad so depleted they succumbed to a 66-0 drubbing but with players returning will hope to improve this week.

Northallerton 1st XV travel to Rotherham Phoenix this week and the 2nd XV entertain Billingham. Anyone who fancies a game for the 2nd team feel free to come to the club on Tuesday or Thursday at 7pm for training or call the club on 01609 773496 on these evenings to find out more.
Also Northallerton Juniors are running sessions on a Sunday morning from 10am, again please come down on a Sunday or call the club for more details.
