Northallerton 1st team hosted strugglers Garforth, who had lost 2 or 3 players in a turbulent couple of months. North took full advantage of Garforth's troubles to put in an impressive display and emerge triumphant by 76 points to 7.
The home crowd were treated to a feast of 11 tries, 9 of which were brilliantly converted by fly half Young plus one penalty. Young put in an exceptional kicking display all day throughout a blustery and windy encounter.
Northallerton were always in control of the match, especially in the scrummage. The visitors were mightily relieved when prop Birtwhistle went off 15 minutes from the end to be replaced by Nicky Bainbridge. Their joy was short lived though, when at the next scrummage, North took the ball against the head and pushed the visitors scrum back 10 yards.
Man of the match went to scrum half, the elderly, grey haired wizard Nathan Cannel who has come out of retirement this season and scored 3 fantastic tries. The 3rd of which originated from his own 22, with him just about having the legs to run the whole length of the pitch to score. He did however, after to come off soon after slightly fatigued and with a minor injury, to be replaced by Martin Dennison, who also scored a try. Other tries were also scored by Jamie 'Flash' Macintosh (3), Colin Birtwhistle, Ed Bulman, Stu Baker Jnr and little Dick Lonsdale, who was very nearly yellow carded for over enthusiastic celebrations in front of the opposition.
One of the most pleasing aspects of this performance was that North never sat back and relaxed. Being 36-7 up at half time, many expected a 2nd half of experimental and maybe slower paced rugby. But encouraged by Captain Paul Dixon and the marauding Lee Peake, North put another 40 points on the board with no reply.
Next week Northallerton play Bramley Phoenix, with the venue yet to be decided.
