AIRE AWAY WOES

Northallerton 1st team travelled to Aireborough buoyed by a recent run of good form, but returned defeated by 30-15.
North started the game full of confidence and zest with Rhys Kilbride continuing his prolific form. Within the first ten minutes North found themselves 8-0 up thanks to a penalty from Tim Tomling and again, another fantastic try from Kilbride. Things were looking very promising for North until they took their foot off the gas and allowed the home team back into the game. Firstly, ill discipline crept into North's game and from a quick tap penalty Aire caught the North defence asleep allowing the home team winger to score under the posts and convert. Then minutes later the home team scored from a long range penalty to take the lead 10-8. Suddenly it was the home team now full of confidence and pressuring Northallertons 22. After ten minutes of constant pressure the home side eventually broke through via the huge frame of their number 8 powering over to score out wide. With half time looming Kilbride again showed his pace and worth to the first team with his second try created by good work from flankers Lee Peake and Martin Sanderson. HALF TIME 15-15
The first half was as good as the game would get as far as Northallerton were concerned though, as in the second half they repeatedly failed to secure any ball. That, combined with a yellow card for Peake - who was mistaken for Lonsdale and also a card for Martin Dennison, severely limited any attacking oppositions North had. Highlight of the second half was when prop Nic Bainbridge, for the first time in his career caught the ball from North's kick off and set off rampaging down field, only for the referee to blow up as the ball had gone 5 metres backwards! Aire proceeded to scored 3 more unconverted tries to close the game out and send North crashing to a disappointing away defeat.

Next week North 1st team are away to Rotherham Phoenix, while the 2nds have the rearranged cup game at home to Guisborough 2nds. While a 3rd team will hopefully be raised again to travel away to play Guisborough 3rds. All kick offs next week revert to a 3pm time.
